How bed sores develop
The continued and unrelenting pressure on certain areas of the body can result in a decrease in circulation. Without needed oxygen, the skin in these areas eventually breaks down.
Bed sores can easily become infected. Once that happens, the infection can be very difficult to control. Christopher Reeves, the actor who once portrayed Superman, died due to complications from an infected bed sore.

Common sites for bed sores to develop include the heels, buttocks, back of the head and shoulder blades.
Pressure sores can easily be prevented by:

• Ensuring that if anyone is confined to a bed or chair that they change their position at least every 2 hours.
• Using items that can help reduce pressure cause by bedsheets.
• Ensuring the patient is eating well-balanced meals.
• Ensuring the patient follows a good skin care routine.
